Weekend Survival Guide for the Girl on a Budget

Issue 53

Every Monday we provide you with our past weekend’s agenda to show you how you can continue to do what you love on the weekend while using your common cents

FRIDAY

10.26.14 FridayFriday was an exciting day of “Take Your Mom to Work Day”! Well, it wasn’t actually “Take Your Mom to Work Day” but it was for us that day! We filled up on some Shakeology shakes to get our energy for the busy day with kids and packed our lunches to stay on our nutrition plans. After work, we met up with my co-worker for some drinks on the beach for Happy Hour followed by appetizers/dinner at a nearby restaurant with my fiance. We loved spending time with my mom and were very appreciative of her treating us!

SATURDAY

12 hours of organizing and quality time with mom pays off! Meals at home helped keep costs down during her visit.

12 hours of organizing and quality time with mom pays off! Meals at home helped keep costs down during her visit.

Saturday was filled with home organization! My mom is an organizing queen and helped make my college style home more “grown up”. We spent 12 hours cleaning, moving furniture, organizing closets, assembling shelves, etc. We were able to relax a little for a delicious steak dinner and some wine on the patio. Mom visits are the best!

Saturday Spending Stats:

  • Coffee: Dunkin Donuts                                                                    $4.00
  • Brunch: Shakeology                                                                         $0.00

SUNDAY

10.26.14 SundaySunday started off by taking my mom to the airport :-(, followed by running a few errands, napping, Sunday chores, and some shopping. I went to the store with a list and stuck to it, helping my wandering eye laser in on what I was actually there for. I checked some items off of my to do list to finalize our house organization. After cooking most of the weekend and being exhausted from a fun 3 days with my mom, Chipotle sounded like the best “splurge”…and it was :-).

Sunday Spending Stats:

  • Coffee (James and I)                                             $4.00
  • Wal Mart                                                               $35.00
  • Lunch at home                                                     $0.00
  • Costume Shoppping                                            $15.00
  • Much needed car wash                                       $19.00 (interior and exterior)
  • Sunday chores/nap                                              $0.00
  • Dinner: Chipotle                                                   $9.00

Total Spent on Sunday:                 $67.00

Estimated Total Sunday Savings:                 $50.00 (on items I COULD HAVE/WANTED to purchase but didn’t)

Total Estimated Weekend SPENDING:             $95.00

Total Estimated Weekend SAVINGS:           $120-$220.00

Hosting visitors over the weekend is a great time to splurge financially and nutritionally, but not always necessary. I enjoyed spending quality time with my mom while organizing my entire house AND sticking to our nutrition plans leaving us feeling thinner and our wallets fatter. What are your favorite, low cost ways to host visitors over the weekend?
